Translating and the hybrid human

Revolutions take a long time - and every industrial revolution brings a learning revolution along with it.

This applies to every manner of job and occupation including translation and interpretation. Translators and interpreters work in a state of dynamic change by choice - and so do we. So, we were particularly pleased to be asked to draw the Translating Europe Forum 2018 in Brussels recently.

How people and pixels or humans and machines combine is an frequent subject at all manner of events we have attend in the past decade – and it was a key theme at the Forum.

The explosion in the volume of retained data is fuelling big changes with machine learning and the development of artificial intelligence. In everyday life, Google Translate has now been working since 2006 and even allowing for the particular challenges which precision brings to the work of translation, Natural Language Processing has also made huge advances in recent years.
