Defending Media Freedom
In mid-July the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) commissioned Drawnalism to support a major international event in London.
The Global Conference for Media Freedom is a two day event, hosted by the FCO in Westminster, with 1500 delegates. The context is the ongoing need to defend media freedom and improve the safety of journalists who report across the world.
There was a packed agenda, and a stellar lineup of speakers, including journalists, legal experts, and government ministers. @drawnalismAlex was wielding the pens on this occasion, and he captured key moments and insights as part of Drawnalism’s In the Moment graphic recording service.
Here are a few highlights:
Plenary and Press Conference
Throughout the conference there was lots of activity on the #DefendMediaFreedom hashtag on Twitter, and we were pleased to see attendees sharing Drawnalism output. For example, the High Commission of Canada in the UK shared this short video.
Many attendees shared their photos of our output- here are a few examples:
Looking ahead
Media freedom is threatened across the world, and it is heartening to see people from different countries working together to protect those freedoms.
Thanks and Credits
Our thanks to Terry Anderson and CRNI; and also to Glenn Marshall and the PCO blog for including Drawnalism in their write-up of the event.
