Two events at St Catherine’s College in Oxford
Oxford Tropical Network Conference
In mid-September Alex spent several days delivering In the Moment at the Oxford Tropical Network Conference.
In the words of the organisers, the Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health:
“The conference is an opportunity for colleagues in our Overseas Programmes and associated Oxford departments to learn about each other’s work in the areas of Tropical Medicine and Global Health, and to forge new collaborations on mutual areas of research.”
As you’d expect from a major international conference involving a wide variety of specialisms, some of the topics were highly technical. We were pleased that many people shared our drawings. Here are a couple of examples from Twitter:
Incidentally, we also covered last year’s event in Vietnam, which we wrote about here.
Equity in Academia
Our next event in mid-September followed hot on the heels of the Oxford Tropical Network Conference, and was also organised by the Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health at St Catherine’s College at the University of Oxford.
This one day symposium and workshop (#EIA2019) explored topics ranging from unconscious bias, under-represented groups, and diversity in academia, to challenges in academic publishing.
There were top quality presentations given by expert speakers, together with workshops, which we supported through our traditional paper In the Moment service.
There was a stimulating discussion, and both speakers and audience were active on social media. We were delighted when many chose to share our output - here are a couple of examples:
